(SPOT.ph) Ah, pizza—it's been called the great equalizer, and a godsend of a dish that satisfies no matter the time of the day or occasion. We're beyond thrilled to have access to lots of great pizza spots in Manila, with some even gaining global recognition in the past couple of years. Here's another amazing accomplishment to give a round of applause for: Chef Margarita Forés-owned restaurant chain Cibo has been named among the best artisan pizza chains in the world, by no less than Italian guide 50 Top Pizza.

50 Top Pizza presented their lineup of the 50 Top World Artisan Pizza Chains 2024 at the World Pizza Summit 2024 during the European Pizza Show in London. Listed at the 44th spot is the Philippines' own Cibo, described to offer "good Italian food at reasonable prices and in easily accessible locations, mainly in the large malls of Metro Manila."
50 Top Pizza praises Cibo's "very extensive" menu that satisfies any time of the day. "From pastries for breakfast to evening offerings, you can eat something at any time of the day. From sandwiches to pasta dishes, salads, soups, and of course, pizza," they write.
Cibo's pizzas, as you'd know, are distinct in that they go by an elongated shape that's served on a wooden board for sharing. Their dough, 50 Top Pizza writes, has the "right balance" and is "light, well-leavened, and perfectly cooked." Highlighted, too, is Cibo's use of "good quality" Italian products, and the way their staff show "a lot of kindness." "Prices are average for the city, but with a significantly higher quality." 50 Top Pizza also points out their recent collaboration with Italian pizza maker Stefano Canosci, which produced limited-edition asparagus-pancetta and porchetta pizzas last August.
At the World Pizza Summit, Chef Margarita Forés also gave a talk on empowering women alongside fellow female pizza masters: Roberta Esposito, owner and pizza maker of of La Contrada di Tony in Pozzuoli, Italy; Camila Prado, Director of Operations and Experience of Bráz Pizzaria in Brazil; and Francesca Marotta, Marketing Director of Fratelli La Bufala in Naples, Italy. "We shared our stories and our efforts at being empowered as well as empowering other women in our sphere!," Forés writes in an Instagram post. "Grazie di cuore, 50 Top Pizza, for this priceless opportunity."
Cibo is a homegrown restaurant serving Italian fare that was established in 1997, with Chef Margarita Fores at the helm. Their first-ever branch was an open-air café designed by Jorge Yulo, originally located at Glorietta 3; they moved to current Glorietta 4 home by 1998. To this day they're known for their pasta, pizza, and other Italian bites made with great-quality ingredients.
50 Top Pizza is an online guide updated annually, listing the "best pizzerias in the world" of different styles and genres. Included in their assessment criteria are the pizza; the service; the space, ambiance, and decor; the wait (e.g., how the "flow of customers is managed" in the restaurant); the wine; the beer; and other beverages. Included their main list this 2024 are also other fellow local spots: a mano and Crosta Pizzeria (for their Asia-Pacific and World lists), and Wildflour Italian (for their Asia-Pacific list).
