(SPOT.ph) Running out of content to stream? Here's something for those who want to support Philippine cinema: The Pista ng Pelikulang Pilipino 2020 is back and it's officially going online! More than 100 titles will be available to stream on the Film Development Council of the Philippines' Channel Website from October 31 to November 15. You can register an account for free or purchase an early-bird pass for P450 until October 15 to get access to all the movies.
While we cannot physically go out and watch this year's selection, the Pinoy film fest compensates by making a lot of Filipino films—across genres and across the years—available to stream. There are at least 11 categories on the "Coming Soon" tab of the website, from documentaries to remastered award-winning classics to recent blockbuster hits and a whole lot more.
If you still haven't watched the Irene Villamor film Ulan starring Nadine Lustre and Carlo Aquino, then here's your chance. There are also a bunch of other romance movies that had Pinoys going crazy over the years, from the unbeatable Sharon Cuneta, Gabby Concepcion, and Dawn Zulueta love triangle in the 1991 classic Una Kang Naging Akin and another Lustre blockbuster, Never Not Love You, arguably one of the films that cemented her and James Reid as one of showbiz' biggest contemporary love teams.
You can also stream several rare and award-winning movies. Lino Brocka's 1976 work, Insiang, which featured Hilda Koronel in arguably most recognizable role as the titular character. A restored version of Brocka's controversial movie, Manila By Night, will also be part of the festival.
The somewhat prophetic Ma' Rosa, starring Jaclyn Jose, will also be up for streaming. Directed by Brillante Mendoza was part of the 2016 Cannes Film Festival and was our country's pick for the Oscars. Another hard-hitting Oscars hopeful was the 2013 Transit, written and directed by Hannah Espia, which tackles the hardships of Filipinos working in Tel Aviv.
Queer cinema will of course be part of the Pinoy film fest. Samantha Lee's indie hit, Billie and Emma, is part of the roster, along with Sigrid Andrea Bernardo's Ang Huling Cha-Cha ni Anita, starring Angel Aquino.
And that's just a sample of the full offering! We definitely think a virtual ticket to this online festival is more than worth it.
