(SPOT.ph) The two-part, four-hour long finale of Stranger Things 4 brought with it a myriad of unforgettable moments that'll undoutedbly go on to become synonymous with the Netflix series' legacy, even long after next season brings the series to a close.
Eddie Munson's (Joseph Quinn) heroic sacrifice being an epic performance of Metallica's "Master of Puppets," the reveal that Vecna-slash-Number One (Jamie Campbell Bower) created the Mind Flayer, and the Hopper (David Harbour) and Joyce (Winona Ryder) steamy kissing scene? All incredible moments.
However, the one moment that's sure not to leave fans' minds anytime soon (for better or for worse) is the scene of Vecna blinding Max (Sadie Sink) and breaking her arms and legs, which effectively put her into a brain-dead, comatose state ahead of the final season. Turns out series creators The Duffer Brothers planned to permanently off the character, instead of leaving her fate ambiguous.

Here's what the Duffer Brothers said about Max's death in Stranger Things 4:
On the possibility of killing Max off instead of putting her into a coma, Ross Duffer stated that on the Stranger Things 4 Vol. 2: Unlocked show on Youtube that her death was “discussed,” saying:
“For a while that is what was going to happen. But we ended up in this... we wanted to end it with a little more of a 'question mark' at the end of the season, where it’s still really dark and we don't know if Max is going to be okay. We wanted to leave it up in the air moving forward into Season 5.”
Yeah, Max isn't feeling all too well after that season finale, but Matt Duffer assured that Max's coma has a long-term plan behind it and is not meant to solely be a cliffhanger, saying “[the coma] idea came as we were in that extra half-year that we had. We went and broke Season 5. Season 5 is solved, so the fact that she's in a coma... it's important that she is.”
Meanwhile, for the character that actually died, Matt Duffer said that killing the season's fan-favorite Eddie Munson was tough and bittersweet. “We fell in love with Eddie. We fell in love with Joe [Quinn]. I think everybody in the cast fell in love with him. We knew he had to die. There's a part of me that wishes he was still around for Season 5. That’s ultimately how you want to feel.”
