(SPOT.ph) If Grey's Anatomy were a person, they'd most likely be a pre-med student about to embark on their college journey. Yup, let's let that sink in. The 17-year-old melodrama from Shondaland has survived through the first years of COVID, many different cast reshufflings, and is now heading strong into its 19th season, which airs this October—only this time, without so much of Ellen Pompeo's Meredith Grey.
Season 19 will be focused on expanding upon the medical world outside the life of the titular character. As such, a fresh batch of interns and new melodrama cadets have joined the ensemble of Grey Sloan Memorial Hospital (which was originally known as Seattle Grace Hospital long, long ago). James Pickens Jr., the series veteran actor who portrays Dr. Webber on the show, recently took to Instagram to give us our first look at the fresh, starry-eyed young doctors of the next season.

Here's what we know about the Grey's Anatomy cast of Season 19:
Yup, you're eyes don't deceive you. That is Glee, Crazy Rich Asians, and Everything Everywhere All at Once star Harry Shum Jr. all dressed up in sky blue scrubs. In fact, his name is Blue! Shum Jr. will be portraying Daniel "Blue" Kwan, a brilliant but impatient medical resident who's now back to pursuing medicine, after suffering a setback due to a family crisis.
The series also confirmed via Twitter five other casting reports from Deadline, including Inventing Anna stars Alexis Floyd and Niko Terho. Floyd will portray Simone Griffin, a "whip smart" first-year resident who has a personal connection with the hospital, while Terho will portray Lucas Adams, a "likable to a fault" first-year.
The cast is rounded out by Midori Francis, a resident struggling with student loans, and Adelaide Kane, a bossy up and comer who was raised by artists who were constantly hooked on substances. Clearly, there'll be a lot of drama going on with this new cast in the 19th season.
But what about Meredith Grey? Pompeo will be returning as the lead character but in a reduced role. She'll reportedly only be appearing in eight episodes in the next season, besides providing voice-over narrations that'll bookend every episode.
Pompeo previously stated that she has lobbied for the series to be brought to an end, but was resisted on the idea because the show makes "a gazillion dollars." Ellen, please blink twice if your being held hostage.
Kidding aside, Grey's Anatomy continues to be the top medical drama playing pretty much anywhere, and we don't expect that to change as long as it keeps up its current ratio of old and new cast members.
Season 19 of Grey's Anatomy is currently scheduled to begin airing in October, but no official word yet on when it will start streaming on Netflix Philippines.
