(SPOT.ph) Hold on to your seats, film buffs, because we’ve got news for you. Think words like free, screenings, and yup, Martial Law. AlternaTV is a series of movie screenings of Martial Law-related films and documentaries that started in July. For their second leg, they’re hosting a free twin-bill feature of Marcos-related content on August 20 at the UP Film Institute Cine Adarna and a whole day of movie screenings on August 21 at the Bantayog ng Mga Bayani, both in Quezon City.
In case you didn’t know, Altermidya, a national network of independent media outfits, institutions, and individuals hosts AlternaTV: Ang Katotohanan sa mga Marcos at Martial Law. This is in anticipation of the 50th anniversary of the declaration of Martial Law in the Philippines in September.

Saturday, August 20: No Time For Crying and The Kingmaker.
On August 20, catch a free screening of AsiaVisions' No Time For Crying and Lauren Greenfield's The Kingmaker at 1 p.m. at the UP Film Center- Cine Adarna. The event is free and open to the public but note that it is on a first-come-first-served basis with limited seating capacity.
No Time For Crying is a documentary about the human rights violations in Mindanao during the Martial Law period. This documentary won First Prize in the Documentary Division at the 1987 Alternative CCP Film and Video Festival.
The Kingmaker is a documentary based on a series of interviews done by American filmmaker Lauren Greenfield with Imelda Marcos as she narrates her life with the late Ferdinand Marcos and her struggles as First Lady. The film also includes interviews with other members of the Marcos family as they talk about their role in our country's government.
Guests who will attend the screening are advised to bring their vaccination cards and wear face masks at all times. No food and drinks will be allowed inside the theater.
Sunday August 21: The Kingmaker, Ang mga Alingawngaw sa Panahon ng Pagpapasya, Portraits of Mosquito Press, Liway, Edjop, and He Never Wrote 30
On August 21, in celebration of Ninoy Aquino Day, there will be an entire day of film screenings held at the Bantayog ng mga Bayani in Quezon City.

Ang mga Alingawngaw sa Panahon ng Pagpapasya is a fictional tale about family life during the Martial law days and the times leading to the People Power Revolution. It is a tale about growing up amidst conflicting ideologies in the family and what it means to be safe during this dark time in history. It features Alessandra De Rossi, Karl Medina, and Micko Laurente.
Portraits of Mosquito Press is a documentary that follows the struggle for press freedom and to provide non-state controlled information during the Martial Law era despite all the danger doing so brings.
Liway tells the true story of Cecilia Flores-Oebanda a.k.a. Commander Liway and her young family as they strive for normalcy while living in one of the prison camps for rebels during the Martial Law era. It stars 2019 Film Academy of the Philippines Best Actress Glaiza de Castro in the titular role.
The documentary Edjop follows the life of student-leader Edgar Jopson who was killed by the military in September 1982. Jopson was one of the influential people behind the historic First Quarter Storm.
He Never Wrote 30 follows the life of Antonio Zumel, a Filipino journalist, political exile, and modern-day revolutionary with a legacy in promoting and defending press freedom. When martial law was declared in 1972, Zumel joined the revolutionary underground movement, helping to publish two underground papers. In 1986, when Marcos was overthrown by the People Power, Zumel surfaced to become a National Democratic Front of the Philipines peace negotiator with the Aquino government.
AlternaTV: Ang Katotohanan sa mga Marcos at Martial Law is a project by Altermidya, a national network of independent media outfits, institutions, and individuals that promotes journalism for the people. It is headed by Luis V. Teodoro, former dean of the University of the Philippines - College of Mass Communication.
