The Next Money Heist Crew Is Here and Whoa, Berlin Is Back

(SPOT.ph) Ever get so invested in a long-running series that you start developing a bit of an obsessive attachment to its lead characters? No, not even the actor. Like, the character itself. Well, it certainly doesn't happen to us often, but we can say with absolute certainty that the last time our odd obsession reached new heights was with Money Heist's Berlin (Pedro Alonso). Doesn't matter how much cruelty he dished out in the series, we were rooting for him every step of the way.

Unfortunately, we bring happy news that our fan obsession over Berlin will be returning with a vengeance, as Netflix unveiled in a Madrid press conference on September 28 the first look at the cast of Berlin's upcoming spin-off series. Alonso was even present to recite the opening lines of the upcoming series.

Here's what was revealed at the Money Heist Berlin press conference:

Money Heist: Berlin will be a prequel series centered around Andrés de Fonollosa, also known as Berlin, and some thievery and heist shenanigans going on in Paris, France. However, the spin-off series won't be a full-on heist story, like the original and Korean adaptations were.

"We made effort to make sure Berlin has its own identity. The idea of making it its own genre and its own genuine story," said Money Heist: Berlin's writer and producer Esther Martínez Lobato. She along with the original Money Heist creator Álex Pina stated that "We loved the idea of introducing a new gang around Berlin in a completely different emotional state," as the prequel series will explore Berlin's comic and romantic side, while still staying true to his roots as a "psychopath and traitor."

This new gang consists of a whole new cast of unfamiliar faces, including Michelle Jenner as tech specialist Keila; Tristán Ulloa as Damián, a philanthropic professor that Berlin trusts; Begoña Vargas as the unpredictable Cameron; Julio Peña Fernández as the loyal Roi; and Joel Sánchez as the hard-hitting heavy Bruce.

Although not part of the main cast, the Professor (Álvaro Morte) will undoubtedly make an appearance, given that he is Berlin's brother—and we're willing to bet €2.4 billion on it.

Details are still scarce on these characters' actual roles in Berlin's formative story, as no footage from the series has been shot yet. Filming will begin in Paris, France, and Madrid, Spain in October.

"We’re filming as we’re writing, so we don’t really know what’s going to happen!" said Pina.

No official word on when the series is expected to drop,  but at least we have the second part of Money Heist: Korea - Joint Economic Area to bide us over in the meantime.
