Meet the New Faces Joining Netflix's Live-Action Avatar: The Last Airbender

(SPOT.ph) In this modern world of nostalgia-fueled entertainment production, it does feel as though the gods flip a coin every time another "live-action adaptation of beloved animated property" heads down the pipeline. On one hand, you get equally vibrant and kinetic works like Alita: Battle Angel and Speed Racer. Other times, well, you get Dragon Ball: Evolution.

It would be an understatement to say that the streaming platform Netflix is taking a huge gamble with its upcoming live-action adaptation of Avatar: The Last Airbender—which already had its first misguided Hollywood attempt. Yet, other than the original showrunners leaving the production, things are looking good for the series as a whole.

In fact, more cast members have been added to the series' ensemble, including the confirmation that the Cabbage Merchant is returning—and we're not just talking about the character.

Here's the newly announced cast members of Netflix's live-action Avatar The Last Airbender series:

Showrunner of the live-action series Albert Kim announced on social media the actors filling out the show's ensemble. Namely, we have Momona Tamada (The Baby-Sitter's Club) and Thalia Tran (Raya and the Last Dragon) portraying Azula's sidekicks and recurring characters Ty Lee and Mai, respectively.

In notable guest spots, we also have Amber Midthunder (Prey) as Princess Yue—most likely for the last couple episodes of the first season, just as in the animated series)—George Takei (Star Trek) as Koh the Face Stealer, Utkarsh Ambudkar (Pitch Perfect) as King Bumi, Danny Pudi (Community) as the Northern Air temple mechanist, and Arden Cho (Teen Wolf) as the bounty hunter June.

Oh, and get ready to scream "My cabbages actor!" in happiness, as James Sie will be reprising the role in live-action after previously voicing the character on the animated series.

This new slew of actors will be joining series leads Gordon Cormier as Avatar Aang, Kiawentiio as Katara, Ian Ousley as Sokka, and Dallas Liu as Prince Zuko.

The casting of Ty Lee and Mai, in particular, should give fans of the series an idea of what changes are expected to be made in the adaptation, as the two characters originally made their first appearance in the second season, "Book Two: Earth," of the animated series.

We're thinking the trio of Azula, Ty Lee, and Mai will be established much earlier on in the live-action series, given how prominent their characters become towards the latter end of the animated series. More flashbacks of Zuko's and Azula's early lives in the Fire Nation, perhaps?

We'll find out once the series drops on Netflix. Until then, we'll be holding our breath until the first look drops.
