(SPOT.ph) Stranger Things finally made its return after a three-year-long wait with a two-part fourth season that both kicked off and brought to a peak the summer season in streaming. More than being just the "summer of Stranger Things,"  it was also the season of Vecna's Curse over on social media, with Kate Bush's "Running Up That Hill" following our every waking move and everyone disclosing what music they'd listen to in order to escape the curse.
Yet, die-hard Stranger Things fans would know that a much more binding curse lies within the writings of the series: being the fan-favorite character of a new season. Between Barb (Shannon Purser), Alexei (Alec Utgoff), and Eddie Munson (Joseph Quinn), the future of overly loveable characters on the series rarely looks bright, especially with the recent confirmation from Stranger Things writers that Will Byers (Noah Schnapp) was supposed to kill our favorite almost-stepdad Bob (Sean Astin) in the second season.

Here's what the Stranger Things writers stated about Will killing Bob in season 2:
The official Stranger Things writer's room Twitter account tweeted on October 6 that "In season 2, a possessed Will was going to kill Bob." This would've been... dark—more than the sophomore season already was, with Eleven (Millie Bobby Brown) going goth and an even bigger monster terrorizing Hawkins.
Portrayed by Lord of the Rings' Sean Astin, Bob was the boyfriend of Will's mom, Joyce (Winona Ryder). The couple did plan on moving out of Hawkins and settling down in a place far away from the Byers family's traumatic past. However, these plans never came to fruition with Bob getting killed by Demodogs while protecting Will from the Mind Flayer's invasion. Yet, despite only appearing in the second season, Astin's Bob Newby is still fondly remembered by fans, not as the stepfather but as the father that stepped up.
Of course, having a possessed Will being the direct culprit of Bob's murder would've been an even more harrowing development than the one we ultimately got. Being the one with the connection to the Mind Flayer, Will undoubtedly already feels responsible for being the cause of Bob's death, albeit indirectly.

Given that Stranger Things 4 confirmed that the Mind Flayer was in actuality the creation/puppet of Vecna (Jamie Campbell Bower) all along, we wouldn't be surprised if a more tragic and sinister story still awaits Will in the fifth and final season, where Vecna will likely unleash his full offensive against Hawkins.
Going back to the tweet, an interesting tidbit is that the writers prefaced the trivia with the phrase "Crazy sh*t that almost happened #1," meaning we can expect more insane scrapped ideas revealed throughout this already excruciatingly long wait for the next season.
