(SPOT.ph) So, you're bored and broke. Never a good combination. You've grown tired of watching series or movies—there's only so much they can do to ease your boredom—and your wallet is in no shape for you to go outside. Still, that doesn't mean you can't do something thrilling and exciting. That's why video games you can play for free exist, or at least, in our perspective, that is.
If you're in it to feel alive for a bit, then drop the relax mode and put on a horror game. Best part? You won’t have to pay to play them. We round up a couple of horror titles you can play free on Steam below.

Get your hearts ready to play these 10 horror games free on Steam:
Cry of Fear
This psychological survival horror game was initially a mod for the first-person shooter game Half-Life. You'll get the same vibes as the Silent Hill franchise with a bit of Left 4 Dead in the mix. Well, at least you get to shoot the nightmarish monsters instead of, well, constantly hiding and running away. You'll play as a young man named Simon who wakes up in an alley in a deserted town. You'll get attacked by deformed creatures as you navigate your way through the city (which is most probably why your character "slowly descends into madness.") You can play this alone or with your friends.
Dark Deception
Think Pacman, but instead of you as the little yellow pac-person, you'll be chased by a horrifying monkey dressed as a bell hopper inside a maze-like hotel floor with absolutely nowhere to hide. Yup, you'll be at the receiving end of the chase. And you'll need to keep running to avoid getting killed. And instead of the bright yellow balls you collect, it's pink glowing crystals. This game will make your icy heart race and have you at the edge of your seat. But not too close to the screen, though, because who knows what might jump out. Don't look back.
We Went Back
Being in outer space is a terrifying thing. Much more if you're alone inside a space station with a demonic monster out to kill you. Oh, and did we mention that the exit is locked? Yep, it's what's up in the escape room-esque horror game We Went Back. It's kind of like the Netflix animated film Exception.
No More Room in Hell
If you're a fan of Train to Busan, World War Z, and other movies or series that are set in an apocalypse, then No More Room in Hell is for you. This first-person survival horror game will have you play as one of eight remaining survivors (who may or may not be your friends) during a zombie apocalypse. Just a little trivia, the title is a reference to Dawn of the Dead's "When there's no more room in hell, the dead will walk on earth." It is said to be heavily inspired by the Living Dead series and was first released as a mod for Half-Life 2. It's time to put all your zombie apocalypse survival knowledge to the test.
Poppy Playtime
This survival horror game will have you yeeting every stuffed toy you have in your home and screaming "Not today, satanic toy with too many razor blade teeth." In Poppy Playtime, you'll play as a former employee of a toy factory called Playtime Co. A letter from a staff member will have you going back to the factory, which is now abandoned (Who in their right mind would do that?!) only to find the toys alive and out to kill you. Toy Story but with murderous toys. Got it.
The Designer's Curse
You'll have nightmares because of this. Inspired by classic horror games such as Amnesia and Penumbra, The Designer's Curse sees you inside the Shaw Well Manor trying to escape terrifying creatures. And really, you don't have anyone to blame, because well... you created them yourself.
AfterHours
Hospitals are terrifying enough as they are, but abandoned ones are on a different level. Unfortunately, one of those is exactly what you explore in AfterHours. It's a first-person survival-psychological horror game where you get to play someone whose sister is in the hospital. When you get to her room, ("Where is everyone? Why is no one working in this goddamn hospital?" You'll ask yourself) things take a dark turn and you'll find yourself being chased by a creepy nurse.
The Backrooms Game
You know you've been deep into the Internet to know what back rooms are, which, for the uninitiated, is a series of endless empty rooms ("approximately six hundred million square miles of randomly segmented rooms," they said) that originated from Creepypasta. This horror game is unsettling and you'll find yourself slowly descending into madness. There are three simple rules if you ever play it: 1) Venture as deep into The Backrooms as possible without going insane, 2) Check your watch every 30 seconds to "Remind yourself who you are and where you come from, and lastly 3) Don't look at it. Yeah. Big nope. Good game.
Deceit
In Deceit, you're either an innocent or an infected person in an asylum. If you're a fan of Among Us, you'll find yourself familiar with this horror game's rules. Yep, there's an Impostor among you. But in this case, it adds another layer because there is an infected who will be trying to prevent other innocent players from escaping, only transforming into their true form in certain situations. No one can know who is which. Now, who do you trust?
Doki Doki Literature Club
The trailer starts off with a disclaimer, saying: "This game is not suitable for children or those who are easily disturbed." But why? At first glance, the game looks so wholesome and cute, quirky and bright. Just look at the adorable and seemingly harmless anime girls in the trailer. Don't be fooled. Heed the warning. There's a reason it's tagged a psychological horror. Curious as to why and how? We won't say much, just try your hand at it and see for yourself.
