(SPOT.ph) Language is a living thing. It changes with the times and is often a reflection of the happenings of a specific period. Every so often, dictionaries are updated to include words that have made an impact on everyday dialogue. This September, Merriam-Webster added 370 new words to their lexicon, and we were surprised to find some terms that are sure to get the youngins cackling with just how familiar they are.
Merriam-Webster, which is the United States' oldest dictionary publisher, usually takes its time when adding words from informal origins to the dictionary to make sure the words fit their criteria on usage. But with the Internet making things more accessible and fast-paced, the lexicon had to speed up including certain words just because they're so widely used nowadays. So, check out the list of slang terms that are now officially in the dictionary, and maybe, surprise your professors by including these words in your next homework.
