(SPOT.ph) As if Filipinos needed more convincing to visit Hong Kong soon, the famed wax museum Madame Tussauds Hong Kong recently unveiled its newest wax figure—and yup, it's a Filipino face we all know. Miss Universe 2018 Catriona Gray joins the roster of stars with her very own wax figure at the Hong Kong attraction. Here's everything you need to know about this new Filipino Pride exhibit piece.

Here's your first look at Catriona Gray's Madame Tussauds Hong Kong wax figure:
Catriona Gray's Madame Tussauds wax figure was officially opened for public viewing on September 1. Her replica wearing the signature red Mak Tumang lava gown shows her lava walk pose. It also has the Miss Philippines sash, which she first donned during the evening gown competition of her 2018 Miss Universe run.
The wax figure stands as an exact replica of the beauty queen. Madame Tussauds even had to commission Gray's original designer for an exact copy of her stunning evening gown. Every detail from the Jojo Bragais-designed shoes to the make-up, and even the famous three stars and a sun ear cuff is the same. Looking at Catriona Gray's wax figure is like looking back to her 2018 pageant days.
In an interview with SPOT.ph, Catriona Gray gushed about how happy she was with the wax figure.
"It's crazy, and I feel very, very proud and very, very blessed. To think that Madame Tussauds has considered me worthy of having and sharing a space here is very, very flattering and a huge compliment because I've always wanted my journey to represent not just my success and being a Miss Universe but also that I carry the Filipino people with me," says Gray.
When asked about what her favorite thing about the figure was, Gray promptly pointed to the Miss Philippines sash proudly strewn over her figure's chest. "I love that I'm actually donning the sash in my wax figure and not necessarily the crown because this is the most meaningful thing to me, and it really gave my journey the weight and celebration that it is."
However, this is not the first time the wax figure is seen publicly. Catriona Gray's wax figure debuted at Madame Tussauds Singapore in 2022, where it was displayed until it was moved to Madame Tussauds Hong Kong this year.
Madame Tussauds Hong Kong Head of Sales and Marketing BoBo Yu explained to SPOT.ph that the Catriona Gray wax figure is one of many traveling pieces in the Madame Tussauds roster. This means that it's possible to see it in another location in the future.
Yu also shared that creating the wax figure was no easy feat. Madame Tussauds' wax figures differ from others due to their authentic handwork and secret wax recipe passed down through artists in the brand for over 200 years. It took around six months to produce the wax figure, with more than 20 people involved in its production.
"Catriona Gray was very supportive and provided a lot of information and measurements to make the wax figure look lifelike. They take over 200 measurements and do photo and video shoots to capture all the details," says Yu.
Catriona Gray isn't the first nor the only Filipino on display at Hong Kong's wax museum. World-famous boxer (and Senator) Manny Pacquiao also has his own wax figure on display along with Miss Universe 2015 Pia Wurtzbach-Jauncey. The three Filipino stars join over 200 other famous leaders, actors, singers, and characters displayed at the attraction.
When asked if Catriona Gray, Manny Pacquaio, and Pia Wurtzbach-Jauncey are the last Filipino wax figures to be displayed, Madame Tussauds management replied with a definitive "no." They are currently working on adding more Filipino stars to their celebrity roster and have even jokingly (or not) asked us who we think they should recreate next.
