Weekend Picks: This Week's Most Interesting Finds
Soy sauce-flavored ice cream, a cool café inside a convenience store, and more.
(SPOT.ph) After more than six months in quarantine, the days have started to look and feel the same. Our routines have more or less been established and our surroundings are always pretty much the same. For this weekend, we list a few of the things we spotted throughout the week that you're going to want to know about, in case you missed them—whether it's an ice-cream flavor featuring a well-loved condiment or a toy that could double as a desk accessory.
A few ideas for your weekend, based on highlights from the past week:
Discover something new from an old favorite.
Sure, you have your fave Frappuccino drink, but there's more to Starbucks than that. There are other offerings from the coffee shop that are worth trying for your next visit. From the list of Starbucks items that are also worthy of our attention, the Dark Caramel Cold Foam Nitro (P230/tall, P245/grande) caught our eye. It has their Cold Brew infused with nitrogen as base and topped with a layer of caramel cold foam for a foamy texture and lending sweetness to each sip. This drink is only available at selected stores.
Shop for #aesthetic baby toys for your godkids.
It's never too early to think of your Ninong or Ninang responsibilities, and if you've been bitten by the all-things-aesthetic bug, this gift option will make you and your inaanak happy. Local brand Bubbé has feeding sets, blankets, and stacking toys that all come in beautiful, minimalist designs and neutral tones. Just look at that Rainbow Stacker (P645)—don't tell the kids but we kind of imagine it has a place on our workstations, too.
Take inspiration from a series of hilarious videos that feature something you'd least expect.
Think your days have become dull and uninspiring? Here's Joyce Glorioso to the rescue! The content creator is making waves online for her pageant skits that feature a handy, versatile prop: banana leaves. Her National Costume entrance skit shows us how it should be done, even going as far as Glorioso tagging former recent queens Pia Wurtzbach and Catriona Gray, though we cannot deny the how her "talent portion" (can't miss that green curtain transformed into a dress) gives us life.
Enjoy breakfast staples in another way.
Are you the type who enjoys cereal for breakfast? Maybe it's time to shake things up and have your favorite on cinnamon rolls! Cinnbuan is an online bakeshop that sells cinnamon rolls you might have never seen before. Cereal lovers can go for Fruity Pebbles (P380/six pieces), which comes with heaps of Fruity Pebbles cereal, while those who like coffee can get their Mocha Chip Latte (P380/six pieces). Want to order? Just send them a message on their Instagram account. They accept payments made through Metrobank online bank transfer and GCash.
Have ice cream that will shoyu how things could be different.
Try an old reliable in a new way.
Everyone’s got a favorite chocolate cake, whether it’s from a café you’ve been going to since forever or the homemade version your best friend always makes for your birthday. It’s hard to get yourself to want to try something new for fear of ending up disappointed—but this new trend just might change your mind. Cakes made with olive oil are having a moment, and the Les Xocolat cake will show you exactly why with its distinctive crumb and full-bodied flavor.
You can order the Les Xocolat cake from GourMei through Facebook or Instagram, just make sure to give them two days’ lead time.
Feel like a kid again thanks to a fun mashup.
If you ever wanted shoes that lit up when you were a kid, we think this would be the grown-up version of that—except it’s a little more low-key. Adidas has teamed up with LEGO to create a pair of sneakers that will keep “Everything is awesome” playing in your head all day, in a good way. This version of the Adidas ZX8000 has accents in the classic colors of LEGO’s timeless building blocks: just what a sneakerhead needs to chase away the 2020 blues.

Cool down with creamy frozen custard.
Level up your frozen dessert this weekend with Shake Shack’s DIY Shack Attack Kits—they come with all the components you’d need to make your own signature Concrete. Trust us, your taste buds will sigh from the chocolate-flavored frozen custard, chunks of Bucky’s original brownie, Auro chocolate chunks, chocolate fudge sauce, and chocolate sprinkles.
Order through GrabFood or Foodpanda, or call your nearest Shake Shack branch and arrange a pickup.
Feast your eyes on an amazing makeover.
It’s a safe bet you’ve never seen a 7-11 like this before—and until we saw it, we never thought we ever would, either. This mini-café in one of the convenience-store chain’s Ortigas branches is a far cry from the usual, with its Instagram-worthy interiors and quirkily designed booths. You almost wouldn’t believe you’d find it in a 7-11.
