(SPOT.ph) One of the best, arguably underrated, drinks Burger King serves is their Mocha Joe Frost, which is basically a simple coffee float but on steroids. It uses an iced mocha for its base and is topped with a vanilla soft serve and a drizzle of chocolate syrup.
This drink was recently removed from the menu, causing a small collective breakdown among its fans. But in an exchange SPOT.ph with a Burger King employee, they do offer a Mocha Joe Frost hack for those who can't live through the hottest days of the year without this coffee float.
The hack uses the Iced Mocha Coffee as its base—a new drink under Burger King's Café selection, plus an additional soft serve. This is the simple Mocha Joe Frost hack we're putting to the test in this entry of SPOT.ph Roadtest.

Here's how to hack Burger King's Mocha Joe Frost:
Price
The Iced Mocha Coffee costs P65 for a Medium and P85 for a Large, plus an additional P20 for the soft serve. In total, a hacked version of the Mocha Joe Frost costs P85 for a Medium and P105 for a Large.
Before the launch of Burger King Café, the Mocha Joe Frost was only available in one size and to be honest, if you're a big fan, you know there's often this feeling of dissatisfaction as you hear you've reached the bottom of the small cup—you know, when you're sucking on air. What we like about the hack is that this offers an option to upsize the drink, so as to not feel any form of discontent.
Versatility
A special section of this road test has to go to the versatility of the product—or the hack. With the launch of the Burger King Café, a huge plus point is that there are also other coffee bases one can choose over the Iced Mocha Coffee.
For those who don't like it on the chocolatier side, they can choose the Iced Vanilla Coffee (P65/Medium, P85/Large) or the Iced Sweet Black Coffee (P55/Medium, P75/Large) to create a different coffee float. There's also Roast Coffee (P49) for those who would like to be on Team Affogato and not Team Coffee Float.
Packaging
We ordered a large Iced Mocha Coffee and upgraded it into a coffee float. We were told that regardless if you order it for dine-in or take-out, the drink now comes in paper cups and has a plastic seal. This is different from how they originally served the Mocha Joe Frost, which was in a plastic cup with a plastic dome cover so it fits the ice cream without squishing it.
Taste
Unfortunately, there is a clear, gaping difference between the actual BK Mocha Joe Frost and its hack. We tried the medium size of the "hacked" version and found it, well, lacking. Gone was the strong coffee punch, creaminess, and sweetness that we knew of the OG, and in its place was a milder, almost watered-down, version.
Logic states that the bigger the cup, the more coffee, and therefore stronger coffee taste—now while the hack meant we had a bigger coffee cup than the OG, that was not the case at all. We feel it should have had a stronger, more pronounced coffee taste as you're paying more coffee to fill the larger cup. The soft serve was thankfully more or less the same, but that's really all we can say about it.
BONUS: We also tried the Iced Vanilla Coffee and ordered it in its Medium-sized cup. The coffee, much like the Iced Mocha Coffee, also has a light coffee body. We tried this in the hope that it could be a great alternative to the Mocha Joe Frost hack but this also suffered the same fate.
But, coffee drinkers differ from each other. Some like it sweet, milky, dark, light, and if you're the type who likes your cups of iced coffee on the milder side, the Burger King Café line is worth trying, at least that's what we can conclude with the Iced Mocha Coffee and Iced Vanilla Coffee we've tried. As a hack for the coffee float? Not really.
Final Verdict
The Mocha Joe Frost has always been on the pricier side when it comes to fast food chain drinks but it has always been, in our books, "worth the splurge." The hacked version though does not elicit the same enthusiasm for us to splurge, but we do hope that what we experienced is an isolated case and that, maybe, in other Burger King branches, the coffee is stronger and the taste is closer.
If not, we can only hope that in the future, Burger King eventually gets its coffee bean-water proportions right. As a fan of the O.G. Burger King Mocha Joe Frost, we cannot wait to be reunited with what was once one of the best coffee floats in town.
