This Descendants of the Sun Remake Is Coming to Netflix
Didn't catch the local adaptation? No worries.
(SPOT.ph) Descendants of the Sun is the type of K-Drama so good you could binge-watch it twice in a row. In fact, we Pinoys loved it so much, GMA decided to create a local adaptation! And even better, the Filipino version lands on Netflix on November 13—which means that yup, you could watch both the OG and then the Pinoy version consecutively on one streaming platform. The first 30 episodes drop on November 13 with five new ones becoming available every Friday after until January 1, 2021.
The Pinoy remake stars Dingdong Dantes and Jennylyn Mercado as soldier Lucas Manalo and doctor Maxine Dela Cruz, respectively. In case you didn't catch it when it first aired on GMA, it follows pretty much the same storyline—only "Filipinized." As GMA Senior Vice President for Entertainment Lilybeth G. Rasonable said in an earlier report, "The beauty of it is, although we have to be faithful to the soul of the story, they're allowing a little leeway to "Filipinize," para mas naka-akma sa Philippine culture."
The OG K-Drama had Pinoys hooked on the love story between Yoo Si Jin (Song Joong Ki), captain of a Special South Korean Special Forces unit and Kang Mo Yeon (Song Hye Kyo), a doctor, set in a fictional war zone. Their on-screen chemistry even spilled over to real life when they got married in 2017 while working on the drama. Hearts broke when they announced their divorce in 2019—but at least we could always go back to the series to relive the cute interactions between the Song-Song couple.
