Weekend Spot: This French-Style Bed and Breakfast Is Your Next Baguio Home

(SPOT.ph) ICYDK, the Panagbenga Festival recently came back to its full pre-pandemic glory, and while that is a big event that a lot of people look forward to every year, it is truly just the start of the peak season for tourism in the city. And while there is no shortage of places to stay in the City of Pines, it's still a fun exercise to search for unique and charming hotels, bed and breakfasts, or inns. While planning our own trip up the Summer Capital, we found this quaint gem tucked away in one of Baguio's residential areas, and might we just say, this Baguio cottage definitely has character. We're talking about Le Coq Bleu, a rustic French home with rooms for rent starting at P3,500 per night.

Le Coq Bleu is a rustic French-style home located in Suello Village, a highly residential area of Bakakeng Central in Baguio City. Its location is not exactly at the heart of the city but going around town should be no trouble as a lot of taxis and jeepneys pass by the area. But to be honest, if you will be booking a stay at Le Coq Bleu, we recommend staying in and enjoying the ambiance of this homey stay and just relishing the cool Baguio air. 

This bed and breakfast is the actual home of the owner Chantal and her well-mannered dogs. The setup for this place to stay is that you will be vacationing in the home along with the owner, a.k.a. a homestay. Unlike usual Airbnbs and other bed and breakfasts, Le Coq Bleu gives you the chance to interact with other guests and the owner during your stay. Don't expect to have the place all to yourself. And no, you can't just go anywhere on the property, as some of the areas still remain private. This setup is pretty common in Baguio, and judging by Chantal's super host status on Airbnb, she's pretty great company, so you have nothing to worry about.

There are actually three separate spaces you can rent out from Le Coq Bleu, a loft-type bedroom for four guests, a small garden cottage for three guests, and a suite room for four. The loft and suite are connected to the main house, while the garden cottage rests below the main structure. So if you're a group of six or up to eight, you may want to consider booking the loft and the suite so that you'll be closer to each other. On the other hand, if you value privacy and your own quiet time, you may want to go to the garden cottage instead.

Regardless of which area you book, you can use the same amenities and facilities. Every guest can access the living area with a fireplace, the dining room, and the garden. If you're staying in the main house, a curfew of 10 p.m. will be enforced, as Chantal locks the front door after this time. Basic needs such as toiletries, bedding, and towels will also be provided. And for those who get hangry in the morning, a European breakfast of croissants or muffins is served with yogurt and coffee, tea, or juice.

A cool tidbit about Le Coq Bleu is that the home is mostly made from recycled materials. Their listing on Airbnb states that the house is made from 90% recyclable materials. Talk about finding treasure in what you usually discard 'cause everything about this spot just screams a hidden gem.

So if you're looking for a quiet place to stay with a touch of rustic European flair, you may want to consider adding Le Coq Bleu to your list of places to stay in.
