(SPOT.ph) It takes a lot to make films come to life and although Philippine cinema is young compared to its foreign counterparts, it doesn't lack for vibrance and variety. It's always good to see young directors like Mikhail Red and indie films like I'm Drunk, I Love You take the lead, but some production houses have been around for much longer and have helped establish the local film industry as we know it today. Regal Entertainment, for one, has been producing films since 1962 and is considered the oldest surviving movie studio in the country, and while you may have heard of it before, there's also another familiar name attached to the company: producer Mother Lily Monteverde. She's helped countless films (like Mano Po, Shake, Rattle & Roll, and Die Beautiful) come to life, and it looks like we're about to get to know more about her: Director Erik Matti has announced that he is set to direct a movie about the well-known producer.
Matti took to Facebook to express his excitement over the upcoming project. Monteverde's son and Matti's producing partner Dondon Monteverde is also onboard.
Monteverde's daughter, Roselle Monteverde, confirmed the upcoming project by announcing it on the official Regal Entertainment Facebook page.
The director's first-hand experience and interaction with the Regal producer are what inspired him to want to make the film, adding that he's looking forward to bringing together directors, actors, and others to contribute in telling the story of Regal Entertainment.
