(SPOT.ph) It was just a few months ago when we witnessed the cinematic glory of Robert Pattinson's weird and loner interpretation of Batman, a.k.a. Bruce Wayne, and thought to ourselves, "he's just like us, for real." In his post-Twilight Saga career, Pattinson has continuously shocked us with increasingly unconventional yet utterly compelling roles, such as that of a horny sailorman in The Lighthouse, an over-the-top French Dauphin in Netflix's The King, and the predator preacher of The Devil All the Time.
After debuting as the World's Greatest Detective (who we gave two "thumb drives" up) in Matt Reeves' The Batman earlier this year, Pattinson has his next project already lined up: a science-fiction film from Parasite and Okja director Bong Joon-ho. Pattinson will be portraying a stressed out employee—who won't be Filipino by the way, despite us topping the stress index of Southeast Asia.

Here's everything we know about Bong Joon-ho's upcoming Mickey7 adaptation:
According to the Hollywood trade Deadline, Pattinson will star in Bong's film adaptation of Edward Ashton's sci-fi novel Mickey7 as the titular character Mickey, an expendable employee sent to colonize the ice planet Niflheim. Should Mickey die on the mission, an exact replica is created with all his past memories retained. By the time it gets to his seventh "respawn," if you will, Mickey starts to question his cycle of suffering (or what overly enthusiastic employers would just call "the daily grind").
Deadline also reported that Mark Ruffalo (The Avengers and Spotlight), Toni Collette (Hereditary and Knives Out), and Naomi Ackie (Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker) are also part of the film's cast. Recently, Steven Yeun (Minari and The Walking Dead) also joined the cast, making it an Okja reunion for him and director Bong.

Additionally, Darius Khondji (Se7en and Uncut Gems) is serving as cinematographer, so we can expect a gritty look and feel even for this sci-fi, outer space film. Think of Bong's prior work, the sci-fi dystopian flick Snowpiercer.
Bong won four Oscars for his previous work Parasite, an intense blend between the thriller, drama, and satire genres. Bong is well-known for tackling themes under the umbrella of social inequality, and Mickey7 looks like it doesn't stray too far from center in that regard, because who doesn't feel like their boss would sacrifice them over and over again just to get Results?
Currently, there is no release date set for the film distributed by Warner Bros. Pictures, but Bong is already underway with pre-production on the picture. Here's hoping we see it drop at least by next year. The #BongHive can't wait any longer.
