It's Confirmed: Hamilton Is Coming to Manila

(SPOT.ph) GMG Productions, which recently brought us the international tour of The Sound of Music and We Will Rock You, finally confirmed in a Facebook post that Hamilton is coming to Manila. A 37-second video came out on March 28 with the details: Hamilton's Asian premiere is in September at Theatre at Solaire in Paranaque City. Pre-sale of tickets starts on April 20 (10 a.m.), but you can already sign up for the ticket waitlist through the GMG Productions website. Hamilton runs from September 17 to November 26.

Hamilton in Manila

This comes after GMG Productions' teaser video released on March 27 with Hamilton creator Lin-Manuel Miranda greeting Filipino fans with a very quirky "Kumusta, Philippines? What's up, dude pare?"

"We've had so many incredible Filipino company members part of the Hamilton pamilya all over the world and now we get to bring the show to your beautiful country very soon. I can't wait for you to see it," Miranda said in the latest video clip.

Hamilton was inspired by Ron Chernow's biography titled Alexander Hamilton, which was published in 2004. The musical premiered Off-Broadway at The Public Theater in February 2015. It went on to win 11 Tony Awards, including Best Musical, after its Broadway debut at the Richard Rodgers Theater in August 2015. Miranda also bagged a Pulitzer Prize for Drama, while he and the rest of his musical team won the Grammy Awards for Best Musical Theater Album.

Back in 2019, there were already rumors about Hamilton eyeing a European and Asian tour, according to a report by Agence France-Presse. Producer Jeffrey Seller, back then, announced that the musical is going to Asia after an Australian tour, which started in March 2021 in Sydney. But then, obviously, the pandemic happened.

Hamilton's Australian tour was suspended in June 2021, and then resumed in October. It's expected to end in Brisbane in April.

Miranda is also the composer and lyricist of In the Heights, which had a film adaptation in 2020. He is also behind the soundtracks of Moana (2016), Encanto (2021), and Vivo (2021). Miranda debuted as a film director with Tick, Tick...Boom!, which came out on Netflix in 2021.

GMG Productions, which broke the news about the Manila stop, also brought us Cats, Royal Shakespeare Company's Matilda, Disney’s The Lion King, Les Misérables, Mamma Mia!, Wicked, The Phantom of the Opera, and West Side Story. Most recently, they staged We Will Rock You and The Sound of Music at the Samsung Performing Arts Theater in Makati City.

Hamilton runs from September 17 to November 26 at The Theatre at Solaire, Solaire Resort and Casino, 1 Aseana Avenue, Parañaque City. Hamilton ticket prices range from P2,645 to P8,993.
